hey everyone i am thinking about the Keweenaw peninsula as an idea for my paper i really want to know more about the Quincy Mine in Hancock Michigan or other mines near there. as of right now i have exploring the library website and found some interesting facts about the peninsula and how it was the worlds leading area for copper hense the name for the area Copper Country. I am fascinated with the area and how it was a booming area for example Calumet was once considered for the state Capital of Michigan which would be weird cause then the Capital would be almost as far north in Michigan you could get. i hope to find some more info. in the library and that everyone has a great weekend.
I hope all is well
Jim
Check in with Sean and Luke as well who are also looking at copper mining in the UP
ReplyDeleteWow that is really cool that Calumet was once considered the State Capital. I have never even heard of it!! Nice bit of trivia lol
ReplyDeleteI have a aunt who lives up by Calumet and I honestly think Brody houses more people then that whole town. Some of the largest deposits of copper in the U.S were found in the U.P. (Keweenaw Peninsula) i dont know if this website will help you, but you might want to give it a try.
